Reluctant Endorsement

I recently admitted to myself that I was becoming a hog and needed to do something before things get out of control. So, I went out and got this aptly titled foolishness. It is indeed Insanity.

I've been doing it for a few days now and I've decided that it's easily the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I don't know if that says more about the program or about my life.

Anyway, I know you've seen the commercials and have wondered about it. It's hard and rigorous and it makes you hurt. With that said, I can't imagine not seeing results after 60 days.

If your normal workouts have plateaued or just want to jump start your sexy, I'd suggest this.

Mary, YOU are the reason I hate Facebook now.

This is a rant about Facebook.

I’m fairly certain I’ve mentioned this here previously but I’m just not that into Facebook anymore. It’s not that I have anything against social networking. I don’t. In fact, Twitter is my shit! It’s just that I’ve been on Facebook for about six years now and the luster is gone. Besides, it’s just too much information to manage about people. I honestly don’t need to know someone’s politics, education, religion, etc. just to shoot the shit with them. But I digress.

Anywho…I’m ranting today with a VERY specific purpose. This chick that I haven’t seen or spoken to IN OVER 10 YEARS requested me as a Facebook friend several weeks ago. We went to the same school and even took a couple of the same classes together, but we certainly weren’t friends by any definition. Attached to her request was this message:

“Yo, [insert my government]. What’s good my n*gga? Remember I used to call you [insert dumbass nickname here]? Holla back.”

As you can imagine, she wasn’t accepted. This very off-putting message aside, I wouldn’t have accepted her anyway because I don’t see the point of adding people who aren’t actually in my life. I let the initial request sit there for a week or so, then declined it. About a week later she sent a second request. I knew right away she wasn’t going to be added, but I smartened up and decided to just let that one sit there for a bit so she would have no other recourse whatsoever. I was sure that was the end of it.

I’m walking to work this morning and got an email on my Pre from Facebook. It’s the same chick. She says:

“What up, [insert my government]. You acting brand new now, n*gga? Still waiting on that Facebook confirmation.”

Brand new? Hoe, we went to middle school together. MIDDLE SCHOOL. I'ma grown ass man now, haven't seen you in years and I'm acting brand new???? I was incensed at that point. How dare you try to chastise me about choosing not to accept your friendship! After 10+ years of not even knowing (or caring) if you’re you alive you wanna come back and give me Scarlett Fever for not accepting you? I don’t play those games. Ya’ll know I upped the anti on that hoe:

“Mary, I appreciate your zeal but frankly I’m not interested in having access into your life and vice-versa. It’s been years and though I hope and your four kids (a subtle dig, but at only 25 y/o that’s a lil tidbit she should’ve left off her page) are well, I’m just not in the practice of keeping tabs on everyone via the internet.”

Now, some of you will undoubtedly say, “It’s not that serious. Just add her and move on.” Well, it is that serious to me. I’m sick and tired of the internet affording people who I barely even know the opportunity to feel uber-entitled to having access into my life. I don’t need to befriend everyone I’ve ever met at a party or who knows of me through someone else who merely knows of me. We hadn’t seen each other in over a decade and I was cool keeping it that way.

As for Mary, she hasn’t responded yet. If she does, then I’ll respond accordingly.

Don't drop the soap, dude.

When I saw the link to this young boy’s criminal charging documents on a message board I frequent, I cried a figurative Serengeti for him. I was in an uproar. I mean, look at that name!

Mercedes Antwan Faggett

I initially thought that nobody, regardless of the crime with which they are accused of committing, deserved this gay ass, shitty ass name. He literally grew up with the worse of all worlds: a cheap, trashy stripper moniker for a first name, the most homo spelling of an already gay ass middle name and the most unfortunate of surnames. My beef was that like many Black parents dude’s folks ruined his life before it even began.

Then I got into what he’s accused of:

If guilty, you deserve that name and much, much more, Mr. Faggett. And given the seemingly hypocritcal disdain harden criminals have for people accused of touching kids you will undoubtedly not enjoy your stay in prison.

It's 5:47am pacific time and though I have a flight out of LAX at 9:50am, I'm awake listening to Drizzy and thinking about life. I'm thinking about how this homo thing is so damn superficial and often makes you feel so damn inadequate.

I don't care how many degrees you have, how big your heart is, how fantastic your job is, how great your apartment is, how much weight you've lost, or how handsome you are, the life really finds a way to make you feel like shit.

You can have the best personality, the prettiest smile, the hottest wardrobe, the best friends, the most supportive family and access to opportunities usually reserved for the most fortunate, we always seem to find a way to forget about how great our lives really are.

I'm also thinking that the club we went to tonight was off the chain and that Cali has some of the best bud I've ever had in my life.

...but a lil experience, fame and maybe some fortune, but you know what I mean.

Anywho...I've shown my mean mug here and there on occasion over the years, but to allow myself to be photographed this much is very much a first. Last Saturday, Deonte K -- who I swear can make a lump of coal look good -- photographed me.

In retrospect, I have to admit that this was a blast and wasn't nearly as intimidating or daunting a task as it seemed when the idea was first floated about. It couldn't have been easier. I literally just stood there and did whatever he told me to do. It's that simple. I'm telling you, if you have the chance to do something similar with this boy, you all better hop on it before he blows up and

Below are a few of my favorites. To see the rest of the shots Mr. K snapped, click here.

Best $100 I've spent in a very long time.

I was soooo anti- anything made by UGG until the white boys recently put me on to these. Like, I just didn't understand why women would wear those ridiculous Alaskan husky boots all the damn time. Now, I get it.

Initially, I thought, meh...UGGs simply CAN NOT be comfortable enough to compel me to pay $100 for a damn pair of slippers. Then, I tried them on. I damn near wore them out of Nordstrom.

When I wear these shoes it feels like the comfort gods are manufacturing tiny little comfort clouds made especially for me to walk on. If I could (read: if these weren't house shoes), I would wear these things everywhere I go and with everything I own regardless of color or style. That's how comfortable these are. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll take them to my grave with me when I go as to be comfy cozy in my afterlife.

If you ain't got you a pair, you better get on it.

I need a EFFING vacation!

I'm not sure if you all remember this or not but...

The Excitable Bore and I went to Miami earlier this year and had an absolute BLAST!!! With cold temps and snow and ice (effing ice + hard bottoms = disaster, btw) returning to the mid-Atlantic, I want to go back. Plus, the first week of this new position is giving me all I can handle.

This pic taken from our hotel balcony brings back a lot of fun little South Beach memories.

Like the time we met up with That Dude Right There and he said I looked Arab because of the beard I was rocking at the time. I'm still NOT amused by that. I was most certainly amused when that French waitress got his southern ass RIGHT together for trying to speak Spanish to her when she CLEARLY said she was French. The half-naked men and women and warm weather and palm trees and beaches. Blah, blah, blah. I want it all, like...right now.

I need a vacation.

Movie Recommendation: Notes on a Scandal

***************************************************

If you’re looking for a good film to Netflix or download or whatever, then I have just the thing for you. It’s a couple years old, but that doesn’t matter. It’s still good nonetheless.

Notes on a Scandal is a British film that did marginally well on the independent circuit here in the States. It was a much bigger success in the UK and Australia, but most Americans are too stupid and parochial to actually appreciate anything another country has to offer anyway. But, I disgress…

If you plan to watch this movie and are one of those people who are anal about being told anything that could remotely spoil the plot, then I suggest you stop reading this post now.

The movie is a about this bitter, old lonely bitch named Barbara. She’s a tough cookie of a teacher at a comprehensive school in London and she’s hated by her colleagues and students alike. Now, other than teaching, Barb does ABSOLUTELY nothing other than write about herself in her journal, taking care of her old ass kitty cat and lament the loss of her “special” friend Jennifer.Well, Sheba joins the staff at the school as the new art teacher and Barbara dedicates her attention to the newcomer, writing mean, bitter shit about her behavior and clothes.

Barbara helps Sheba with an impossible situation with two students and Sheba, being the grateful new teacher she is, invites her to have lunch with her family. Barbara becomes close to Sheba, but when she accidentally discovers that Sheba is having an affair with a fifteen year-old student, Barbara sees the chance to manipulate and get closer to Sheba, hiding the secret from the school headmaster.

Barbara’s cat Portia dies and despite her pleas for company, Sheba does not stay with Barbara in the veterinary office instead electing to go see her son Ben in his first school play. Barb does NOT like this one bit and begins plotting her revenge against Sheba, which creates a scandal and turmoil in their lives.

Throughout the entire movie, I was on my seat not knowing what was going to happen next. There were several of twists and turns that had me saying…”damn, these hoes can not be serious.” Plus, I love the way the Britons talk and interact with each other. That kept me entertained.

Anywho…Notes on a Scandal. Go cop that shit, son.
