Happy Birthday To Me (Part Deux): The Redux

Last week I mentioned I was thinking about buying the Palm Pre and this week I did. I called yesterday to pre-order from Sprint. My Pre will arrive 2-5 business days after it's released on June 6th.

I had my doubts, but was sold after I watched this 26-minute long demo. The only issues I'm remotely concerned about are availability of apps (Apple's App Store has spoiled me) and the fact that it doesn't have a virtual keyboard.

The demo is above.

Whatever Jonesy Wants, Jonesy Gets. And Little Smartphone Jonesy Wants You.

Sprint announced today that it will be the launch partner for the Palm Pre. The phone is scheduled to drop on June 6th. I'll buy it as a late birthday gift to myself. The Pre is supposed to compete with the iPhone. We'll see about that.

Pressure is mounting on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when it comes to the debate over torture -- what did she know and when did she know it?

Top Republicans are jumping all over this, calling on the speaker to come clean about all of this -- either apologize or possibly lose her leadership post.

Newt Gingrich says Pelosi has defamed everyone in the intelligence community by claiming that they misled her. And he says he can't see how Pelosi can serve as speaker if it turns out that she lied about national security to Congress and to the whole country.

House Minority Leader John Boehner says if Pelosi is accusing the CIA of lying or misleading Congress, then she should come forward with the evidence so these officials can be prosecuted. If not, Boehner says she should apologize to the intelligence community.

CIA Director Leon Panetta weighed in on all of this last week. He challenged Nancy Pelosi, saying it's not the agency's "...policy or practice to mislead Congress. That's against our laws and our values."

Gingrich suggests Panetta's comments put strong, clear pressure on the House to start a formal investigation of Speaker Pelosi, who is third in line to be president of the United States.

Meanwhile, Pelosi responded to Panetta by shifting her criticism away from the CIA and over to the Bush administration. She also continues to insist she was briefed on interrogation techniques only once and that she was told the techniques of waterboarding and other torture were not being used.

Critics say she was fully briefed twice on waterboarding in 2002 and 2003.

So here's the question: Is it time for Nancy Pelosi to step down as speaker of the House?

Why should you support ShawnQT and his YouTube crew? Because I asked you to. So, do it!

You kids know ShawnQT, right? If you don't, then get familiar by clicking here.

Shawn is cute, funny as heck (especially when he's drunk or close to it), hella creative, very warm and fuzzy (he welcomed me into his home and got me liquored up when I happened to be randomly in Newark during one of his infamous gatherings), has a cay-ute little well-mannered boyfriend and is just an overall likable guy. You really can't go wrong with him.

Now that I'm done gushing I'm suggesting that all you hoes out there that frequent my little section of cyberland take several minutes to check out FIVEblackguys, a YouTube channel with which Shawn is affiliated.

The premise is simple: Shawn and 4 other equally entertaining black men post vids that cover everything ranging from the appropriateness of the N-word to dating peeps with HIV, etc. They're entertaining. I wouldn't say that are if they aren't, trust me.

So, don't fight it, just do it. I don't put my own reputation out there for just anything.

Detroit is an absolute mess. Is this the chick Kwame Kilpatrick was texting and foolin around with?

I should have no business being able to talk sh*t about another city's local politics. You know, being from Baltimore and all. Not with my ghetto ass mayor currently trying to beat a case.

Detroit is really a mess tho. This is actual footage from an actual Detroit City Council session.

Desiree Rogers On WSJ Mag Cover

This is Desiree Rogers, President Obama's Social Secretary. I wrote about a couple months ago. I still think she's the bomb and so does the WSJ. She graced the cover of its magazine this month. She looks great, right?

The next person who mentions Swine Flu/H1N1 Influenza-A will get kicked in the balls.

Swine Flu by the Numbers:

# of case worldwide: 257
# of people on Earth: 6 billion

# of cases in Mexico: 97 | # of related deaths: 7
# of people in Mexico: 109 million

# of cases in United States: 109
# of people in United States: 306 million

************************************************

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you've been bombarded with this swine flu stuff for several days now.

When the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert to the second highest level of 5 on Wednesday, don't you know the media just couldn't get enough? They were all over it because this stuff sells newspapers and gets ratings. But if you look at the numbers, it seems like this story might be a tad overblown.

Based on the numbers I listed above, this hardly seems to be cause for alarm.

Scientists who are studying the virus say the strain of influenza doesn't look as deadly as strains that have caused previous pandemics. In fact, some scientists suggest the current form of the swine flu virus many not even do as much damage as the regular old garden variety flu does, and here are some numbers that support that idea.

13,000 people in this country have died from regular flu since January. It's expected it will continue to kill hundreds of people every week. 36,000 people a year die in the United States from the flu. Not the swine flu, just the flu.

So here's the question: Has the swine flu story been overblown?

Here's a hint -- yes.
