No apology from Kobe Bryant

As if loving Coach K and Dook and allegedly raping under-aged white girls, then paying his wife off in diamonds weren't enough, Kobe decided to further solidify his spot on the Mt. Rushmore of all-time biggest jerk offs in sport by dropping the F(aggot)-bomb on on NBA official Bennie Adams last night during the Lakers' win over San Antonio. As you can imagine, he was swiftly lambasted by gay rights groups and fined $100,000 by the league

Kobe today issued a statement in which he apologized for nothing and essentially blamed everybody else for their interpretation of his comment.
“What I said last night should not be taken literally. My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone.”

Essentially Kobe is suggesting that though he was angry at being hit with a technical foul and lashed out at the ref by calling him a "fucking faggot", he didn't actually mean to offend anyone. He also suggests that anyone who thinks what he said was in the least bit insensitive or wrong needs to chill.

Does calling a ref a "fucking faggot" in the heat of a game make Kobe a homophobe? I don't think it does. At the very least this way-too-sure-of-himself son of a bitch has once again reminded me that you can be one of the best athletes on the planet and still be an inappropriate idiot.
